Key Signatures
In order of appearance on the circle of 4ths & 5ths
clockwise & anti-clockwise, respectively.
| C Major | A Minor | None |
| G Major | E Minor | F# |
| D Major | B Minor | F# & C# |
| A Major | F# Minor | F#, C# & G# |
| E Major | C# Minor | F#, C#, G# & D# |
| B Major | G# Minor | F#, C#, G#. D# & A# |
| F# Major | D# Minor | F#, C#. G#. D#, A# & E# |
| C# Major | A# Minor | F#, C#. G#. D#. A#. E# & B# |
Note : as each additional sharp is added to the signature, this acts as the leading note to the tonic of the new major key. So, the major key of a sharp signature is always a semitone higher than the last sharp in it, the relative minor being 3 semitones lower than that.
| C Major | A Minor | None |
| F Major | D Minor | Bb |
| Bb Major | G Minor | Bb & Eb |
| Eb Major | C Minor | Bb, Eb & Ab |
| Ab Major | F Minor | Bb, Eb, Ab & Db |
| Db Major | Bb Minor | Bb, Eb, Ab, Db & Gb |
| Gb Major | Eb Minor | Bb, Eb, Ab, Db, Gb & Cb |
| Cb Major | Ab Minor | Bb, Eb, Ab, Db, Gb, Cb & Fb |
Note : as flats are added to a key signature, the major and minor keys, aswell as the accidentals appear as 4ths above the previous ones. Because the major key is one step behind the accidental, the major key of a flat signature can be worked out by looking to the penultimate accidental in that signature (at least 2 flats are required, of course). And, again, the relative minor is 3 semitones below the major key.
